Power Pit finally being installed!

Went by the house after work, and look what's appeared on the footpath!

These guys were just finishing up the job, but will be back tomorrow as they couldn't finish it all today. Cool digging equipment allows them to trench right under the road to the power pole opposite!

One thing I need to check is that the power pit isn't connected to the live wires - apparently the builder is meant to organise this connection through the local retailer (Tru Energy). I'm wondering if I should contact Tru Energy to arrange connection, rather than relying on Metricon to do it?

  1. Hello,

Thanks for sharing your buiding experience. Your blog is very helpful.

We are building with Metricon as well. Our powerpit is installed, but we got told by United energy that we need to engage an electrician to submit an application for activation/connection with the local retailer.

Our customer service leader from Metricon told us that we have to activate the powerpit ourself before site starts. HOwever, the retailer insisted that our electrician (or builder) should apply for the activation.

Did you arrange the connection yourself in the end? I am a bit lost as to what to do (and our CS leader is not responding to our calls and emails).

Thanks in advance for your help.

  2. Hi Cassie - people working for Metricon can be very helpful or very unhelpful, and most fall somewhere in-between. When we applied for our powerpit, there was a section asking for a REC (registered electrical contractor or something like that) and we put in Metricon Homes and the phone number of our CSC as the contact. Didn't have any problems after that.

  3. Hi Tim,

We are looking at building the imperial home. We are about to sign our preliminaru contract. Would love to get some more information from you as we are a bit stressed about all the decisions we have to make before we sign, and how we can't make changes after.
